Programme Content:

Learners joining the Gateway Provision will be offered a 50% personal development, 50% vocational options/sampling programme.

Personal development activities include – caving, canoeing, off-road cycling, map reading and navigation, orienteering, independent travel and an overnight teambuilding residential experience.  Learners will be involved in the planning and preparing of all activities.

Vocational sampling will be offered in-house or with local employers.  Learners have the chance to try motor vehicle, manufacturing, engineering, gardening and building maintenance in fully equipped training centres.  Visits to a range of employers and presentations by the Army, Fire Service, and Police will be used to inform learners about the world of work and learning.

Key Learning Outcomes :

Personal development activities will offer learners the chance to achieve Working with Others and Improving Own Learning and Performance qualifications at level1.

Literacy and numeracy on-line testing will be available to learners who wish to achieve basic skills qualifications.

One-day certificated health & safety, manual handling and first aid courses may be built into the programme.

When undertaking work/vocational sampling learners will be assessed by observation. Feedback will be given on aptitude, motivation, strengths and areas for improvement.
